The Hilton San Diego Bayfront is a large and beautiful 4-star hotel in San Diego, California. This grand hotel is located near the San Diego International Airport, Petco Park, and the historic Gaslamp Quarter with many fine restaurants.

The 2012 FEC is conveniently located within walking distance to many downtown attractions (see map in accommodations). The downtown area can be busy, especially during baseball season. The organizers highly recommend that you do NOT bring a car to downtown San Diego. Valet parking at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel costs $36/night, and other options are severely limited due to the close proximity of the baseball park. (This is only an issue in October if the Padres are in the playoffs).

The hotel is a short 3-mile (5 km), inexpensive taxi ride from the airport. The Gaslamp Quarter trolley station is located across the street (serviced by a pedestrian bridge) to the hotel. Information on the trolley and schedules can be found here: http://www.sdmts.com/

Directions: Out of airport follow signs for Interstate 5 South towards Downtown. The ramp will put you on North Harbor Drive going south. Continue to Park Blvd., turn right, then turn left onto the ramp to the hotel.

Coffee and Tea Breaks

Coffee breaks will be held twice daily Monday through Saturday (10:15 – 10:45 and 16:10 – 16:40).

Internet Cafe

The Internet Café is located on the Indigo level, and is the closest room to the hotel lobby (see hotel floor plan). The Internet Café will have approximately ten (10) computers and two (2) printers for use by the conference participants as well as several tables, with power outlets where participants with laptops can work. There will be free WiFi available in the room (login name and password will be provided with onsite registration material). The hours of operation will be 14:00 – 19:30 Sunday, 7:30 – 18:45 Monday – Friday, and 8:30 – 12:00 Saturday. A Starbucks Coffee cart is planned to be located within the Internet Café.

San Diego Trolley

For conference participants that are staying at hotels not within walking distance to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, the best means of getting to the conference daily is to use the San Diego Trolley. Conference participants using the Overflow Hotels will be issued a Trolley pass when they register. If your hotel is near an GREEN LINE trolley stop, you will debark at the “Gaslamp Quarter” stop and take the footbridge over Harbor Dr. to get to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. If your hotel is near a ORANGE LINE trolley stop, you will debark at the “12th & Imperial Transit Center” stop and take the footbridge over Harbor Dr. to get to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel.

Trolleys run about every 15 minutes from 5:00 – 20:00, every 30 minutes 20:00 – 24:00.

Onsite Registration

Onsite registration of participants will take place on 

Sunday, 7 October 2012, from 16:00 to 19:00
At the entrance to the Indigo West Foyer at the Registration/Conference desks.

Onsite registration will continue on Monday, as of 7:30. Due to the large number of participants attending, participants are strongly advised to register on Sunday to avoid long queues on Monday.

No onsite registration fee is charged.

Opening Ceremony

Monday, 8 October 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Indigo Ballroom (second floor).

Travel/Social Desks

The Travel/Social desks are located at the entrance to the Indigo West Foyer along with the onsite registration desks. The staff manning the desks will be able to help with purchase of Banquet and Reception tickets, Scientific Tours and information on local attractions.

The IAEA Secretariat is located in Aqua 311 (third floor).

IAEA Editor and Nuclear Fusion Editor

The IAEA Editor and Nuclear Fusion Editor will be located in Aqua 312 (third floor).

Local Organizer's Office

The Local Organizers and Conference Cordinator’s Office will be located in Aqua 314 (third floor).


Hotel room reservations are the responsibility of the conference participants. Aside from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, which is the conference hotel, a selection of hotels (2 star to 4 star) have been identified. Satellite Meetings

Satellite meetings will be held in Indigo rooms 202A, 202B, 204A, 204B, or 206. Deadline to reserve a meeting room is 8 September 2012.
